MORE EARTHQUAKES.

MATAMATA FEELS SHOCKS.

At Matamata, between 10.30 and 11 o’clock on Monday night, an earthquake shock, lasting several seconds, was felt. The tremor was not of sufficient intensity to cause damage, though it was strong enough to rock tables and chairs. , Later reports are - to the effect’that in one or two instances crockery was shaken off the.shelves and broken. - AT MORRINSVILLE. • / Morrinsville was shaken by several earthquakes on Monday night and Tuesday morning, but the visitations were not sufficiently serious to cause excessive damage. There was practically no damage, beyond crockery .and vases falling and breaking. j The statement made by the Hamilton correspondent of an Auckland paper that “ everyone in the town left their beds, and many people, including women and children, ran out into the streets,” is sheer exaggeration. Constable Heeps says that he did not make any such statement as is attributed to him. There were a few people in the streets at the time %returning from the pictures. In one house all the clocks stopped. Curiously enough the quakes had the effect of setting, a large pendulum clock in .fffr. Scott's jeweller’s shop ticking dway merrily.

Two chimneys were shaken down, both at Mrs. M. Seales’ residence in Thames street. One of the chimneys was snapped off at the roof, and a large hole was blown in one side of the other, causing the chimney to collapse. The top section of the War Memorial in Howie Park was thrown out of alignment again. FELT AT PUTARURU. The earthquake 'shock recorded •throughout Waikato on Monday night was felt distinctly at Putaruru, but no damage is reported. % The shock appears to have been generally felt in the Thames Valley and Hamilton districts.
