POLITICAL NOTES.
TAURANGA ELECTORATE. The Liberal Interest. Five “ Probables.” Although matters political in the Tauranga electorate are more or less “ in the ; lap of the gods,” pending the result of the “fusion conference,” nevertheless there is a designed purposeful stimulated awakening of interest, especially in Liberal and Lib-eral-Labour circles.
Up to the present there are no fewer than five “ probables ” in the uioeral and Liberal-Labour interests, namely, Messrs. R. Coulter! Laurence Johnstone, Robert King arid W. C. Kennedy, B. C. Robins. Recently an unadvertised meeting was held at Matamata, in the Liberal circles, when Messrs. J. Pohlen and John Buchanan were appointed as delegates to a proposed conference with delegates to be appointed from the Tauranga side of the ranges.
Mr. R. Coulter (Liberal, of Te Aroha) has been spending a few days in Matamata district, actively engaged in furthering his candidature.
Interviewed by a representative of the Matamata Record, Mr. Coulter -ex- ; pressed his determination to “ carry ! cn.” Apart from ,the question of party politics, he considered that various interests on this side of the ranges had been completely neglected, and he was paying attention to ■ these interests, irrespective of the j outcome politically. The death of the , Prime Minister released many from \ their obligations, and realignment was j taking place everywhere. {
Mr. Laurence Johnstone is also busy ; and is arranging for meetings of his ; supporters on this side of the range.
