WAHAROA.

BOY SCOUTS’ ENTERTAINMENT. A very creditable entertainment was provided by the Waharoa Boy Scouts on Thursday evening before an appreciative attendance bordering* on the century. Excellent and instructive displays of ambulance work were given, and also examples of the art of improvised bridge building, showing the enormous practical value of the instruction. Many songs, recitations and musical items delighted the audience, and an interesting outline of the history of the Boy Scout movement, from its inception by Lieut. - Colonel Baden - Powell, was given by the chairman. The organisation, he said, was now honoured, not only over the whole vast range of the British Empire, but throughout the civilised world. Attendance prizes and also prizes for scouts and cubs who had shown the greatest improvement in knowledge and application of Scout law were awarded. A large and representative committee of enthusiastic workers in juvenile welfare was formed, and included seveial ladies, to assist in furthering the movement. A bountiful suppei was provided by the ladies of the district. The function gave promise of still greater progress of the troop, which very obviously has the good wishes of the whole community for its welfare.
