CATHOLIC CHURCH.

CONSIDERABLE EXTENSION Decade's Wonderful Expansion.

The extensions to the Matamata Roman Catholic Church are about completed, and constitute remarkable material prpof of the progress of "The Church of the Holy Angels." Although this church was erected as recently as 1911, it has already become imperative to double the seating capacity. The addition measures 27 feet, including a new porch, a 14 feet by 9 feet sacristy, an organ gallery, and the removal of the old confessional from the body of the church to the exterior. The total length of the building is now 90 feet, and the seating capacity 260. Even now, with •double the seating accommodation, the building will be none; too big, for the number of persons' of Roman Catholic persuasion has increased by about seven-fold during the past decade, and within a radius of ten or twelve miles of Matamata there are now some 300 adherents.

The parish, formed some five years ago, is the youngest in the diocese of Auckland, and its growth has been phenomenal. The official opening ceremony will take place shortly.
