POWER BOARD WORKS.

IN THAMES VALLEY. Reports of Progress. Reports of the progress of the works in the Thames Valley Electric Power Board's area were submitted to Tuesday's meeting of the board by the engineers (Messrs. Gauvain and McLeod) and by the manager (Mr. R. Sprague). ENGINEERS' REPORT. Morrinsville district: The reticulation of the Mangateparu settlement has been completed during the month and the gang in this district has now started on the main line from Mangateparu to Tahuna. Some 250 35ft poles have been barged up the river and landed at Tahuna in connection with the work on this section. Short lengths of low tension lines have been erected at Motumaoho and Hangawera road. Manawaru district: At the Gordon a transformer stimcture has been erected and a 50 K.V.A. transformer installed to supply Benjamin's quarry. Power was supplied to this quarry on the 23rd inst. Waihou district: A low tension line is being constructed near Thomas' road.

Mortensen's road: The pole erecting on this road is now completed, and the high tension wiring is well in hand; work is proceeding ori fhe service lines.

Wardville road: Pole ex-ecting on this road is now proceeding, and about two miles of poling are finished. Low tension extensions: Extensions have been carried out on the Waotu road, Taumangi road, and in the Waharoa township. MANAGER'S REPORT.

Broken insulators: A further ten 11,000 volt insulators were broken at Mackaytown owing to youths throwing stones and using pea rifles. This makes a total of 41 insulators broken to date on this section. Information was given to the police, and three youths residing at Mackaytown have admitted wilfully breaking the insulators with stones. The case was heard at Paeroa on Monday, and together with a claim for £5, being the cost of the insulators broken, two of the youths were fined for the damage caused and ordered to pay costs in each case.

Consumers: The total number of consumers now connected to the board's mains is 4414, included in which are the boroughs of Thames and Te Aroha. Sixty-four lighting and heating consumers were connected and 35 farmers' motors, of which 27 are 2 h.p. milking motors. There were also installed eleven motors on meters, these being industrial motors. The total number of motors installed and running on farms are 1055, of which 951 are 2 h.p. milking motors. Poles: All the poles have been delivered to the landing at Tahuna from Auckland, and are now being carted on the pegs along the Man-gateparu-Tahuna-Hoe-o-tainui section. The work of erection has now been started. FINANCE. Figures showing the revenue of the past half year were submitted as follows: Flat rate consumers, £15,251 Is 8d; waterheaters, £222 15s 9d; towns (meter), £6328 19s lid; street lighting, £403 15s lOd; towns (maximum demand), £1796 ss; factories (maximum demand), £lßl6 8s; trading department and sundries, £4833. Balance, £2BOI 15s 6d.

The expenditure was shown as follows: Power purchases (P.W.D.), £9293 Us 6d; administration, repairs and maintenance, £5060 lis 2d; interest and sinking fund, £18,877 10s; total, £33,237 12s Bd.
