OUR CHRISTMAS NUMBER.

PRIZE COMPETITION. To encourage literary talent, we have decided to give prizes for: — (1) Best Original Short Story, not exceeding 1000 words. For children under 16 years of age. First prize, £1 Is; second prize, 10s 6d. (2) Best Essay on "The Needs of the Town and District." Give your views upon the means whereby progress may be achieved. Not to exceed 500 words. Open competition. First prize, £1 Is; second prize, 10s 6d. The winning articles wHI be published in our Christinas Number. Writing to be on one side of the paper only (typed for preference, though this is not essential), sent folded flat, not rolled. Competitor's copy to be sent in addressed to the Editor not later than November 15, 1924. All stories to become the property of the Editor, who may publish "them if of sufficient merit.

The last folio should bear the name and address of the competitor, as well as any nom-de-plume that the writer may wish to use, and must state what class, either 1 or 2, the contribution is meant for. In the juvenile class, age must be stated.

The Christmas Number will be a good production, worthy of the district, and it is desired to include the fruit of some local talent in its pages.
