" , A HUGE SUCCESS. V -u— : -' The Matamata Methodist Church • .Bazaar,-held in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening turned out to be far . ihore successful than was anticipated even by the promoters. As a result it is expected that something’in'the vicinity of £‘2oo will be realised, added to Which will be donations,to the extent of.£loo, The various stalls were patronised well throughout the day. and,there was a particularly large attendance in the evening, despito a counter-attraction. The hall presented a brilliant sight, the various stalls being beautifully decorated. tAI; , the entrance was a massive Christmas tree, which proved to bo a strong attraction for. the young folk. Orchestral items were nicely rendered during the evening session by an orchestra, composed of Mr. P. C .Ingham {piano), Darragh and Mossman (violins) and Mr. M. Bates (cor, i net). Various competitions created great interest, and resulted as fol- ■ lows:—Ladies’ nail-driving, Mrs. T. G. .Williamson; gents’ nail-driving, Mr. ,T. Dent; gents’ clothes-line hanging, Mr. S. Grimwood; gents’ bedmaking, Mr. S. Grimwood; quoits, Miss D. Bates. The whole arrangements- reflected great credit on a willing band of . workers, headed by Mrs. Jefferson(president of the Ladies’ Guild) and Miss Sargeant (secretary). Some of the workers were as follow’s: —Cake stall: Mesdames A. C. Vosper and H. Delaney. Produce stall: Mesdames Olliver and Reid. Plain and fancy needlework stall: Mesdames Jefferson, Bates, North, and Misses Sargeant and Finlandson. Sweet stall: Misses Vosper, Pendray and Bates.. Flower stall: Miss Beatrice Bates. Christmas ' tree: Mesdames Williamson and Tombs. Tearoom: Mesdames J. F. Vosper, Casley, Underhill and Misses North, N. North, ,G.. and H. Barugh, N. Johnston, M. Moreland, Rena Stewart, and Margison. The bazaar was held for raising funds to extinguish the debt on the Matamata Church.
