Two, well-known ladies had a narrow escape of serious injury while driving on the Tirau-Cambridgc road at dusk, last week. After passing Mr. Stewart's house a little over a nfllo from the township, a motor-car with no lights came round the corner suddenly. The horse shied, and the trap containing the two ladies went over the embankment, throwing them both out. One of them escaped with a broken rib, and the other was severely bruised about the body. Both arc progressing favourably according to the latest report.

The, Tirau Hall was crowded on Friday evening last by local residents and visitors, the attraction being a concert by the Hamilton Concert Co., in aid of the Anglican Church funds. The various items were well received, and in many cases encores were demanded. A special feature, too, waft the pretty stage decorations. The programme was as follows:—Pianoforte solo, " Valaucclle," Mrs. Bishop; duet, " Silver Threads Among the Gold," Mrs. Underwood and'Miss Macintosh; song, " Mountain Lovers," Mr. A. G. Yardley; pianoforte solo, " Padcrewski's Minuet," Miss Macintosh; song, " Mate o "Mine," Miss Jacobs; song, " The Last Muster," Mr. Harnett; song, " Excelsior," Miss Macintosh; interval; solo, Miss Macintosh; song, "Parted," Miss Jacobs; song, "Roses," Mrs. Underwood; song, "Because," Mr. Yardley; pianoforte solo, " Air de Ballet," Mrs. Bishop; song, " June," Miss Macintosh; song, "where the Mountains of Mourne Sweep Down to the Sea," Mr. Barnetl. The concert was followed by supper, and then a dance, for which the M.C.'s were Messrs. E. W. Jordan and A. J. Neville, and altogether the entertainment proved a most happy and sociable one. Mr. Barnctt, during the course of the dance, rendered or\e or two monologues, the humour of which greatly appealed to the audience. The chairman, Mr. F. Shannon, announced that the proceeds amounted to £24. ' •
