“NINE MEN” SATURDAY NEXT The key to success or failure in warfilms has proved to be the degree of sincerity in the story. Filmgoers will applaud only what is good. The pictures which never fail on the score of sincerity are the documentaries, because they are factual. But in the absence of telling a story, they are often rather dull. Two men, producer Michael Balcon, responsible for “The Foreman Wont to France” and Harry Watt, director of Target for Tonight, most famous of all .documentaries, have a new idea. The result is Ealing Studios ’ ‘ ‘ Nine Men, '' a film about nine British soldiers in a tight spot during the Libyan campaign. The new method of production which gets its first airing with this picture is the application of the realistic technique of the documentary to fictional films. Nino Mon,” which has a vigorous now star, Jack Lambert, in the leading part, has all the vividness of a film like 1 The Foreman Went to France” and is a truly magnificent tribute to the Bth Army.
