He was working in Paramount’s “Birth of the Blues’’ in a scene m which he had to wear a tuxedo. When the crooner walked on tho set some 150 extras chanted “Happy Birthday To You’’ to the amb'arrasscd actor. Bing walked up to Director Victor Schortzinger. “The least you might have done,’’ he said, “is to have changed the shoot ing schedule for my birthday so that I could get out of this straight-jac-ket.’’ Bing swears that the only comfortable item of clothing he had on was a battered old bat widen is a fugitive from a rubbish dumo.

“TEXAS TO TOKYO”

MONDAY NEXT Youth in command, is the signilicant theme of Walter Wangcr’s pro duction, “Texas to Tokyo,” coming to the Town Hall on Monday next. The graphically filmed story is enacted by a cast of youthful celebrities including Richard Quine, Anne Gwyunc, Noah Beery Jr., and Martha O’Driscoll, all of whom are said to have contributed inspired performances. Spectacular scones of the mighty training centre highlight the film’s stirring action which focuses attention on the intimate career of a certain student officer. This officer, portrayed by Quine, is the supposedly mythical traitor, who apparently aids the enemy but who forfeits Ids own life in an act of supreme loyalty to bis country.

WEDNESDAY NEXT The hilarious results of a secret marriage arc said to be revealed with extraordinary effect in Universal’s “Fired Wife,” which is scheduled for screening on Wednesday next. The new comedy-drama, starring Robert Paige and Louise Allbntton, is announced as one of the most mirthful and entertaining pictures in the current array of fun-films. Diana Barrymore and Walter Abel have loading featured roles. Appearing prominently in an impressive supporting cast are Walter Catlett, Ernest Truex, Alan Dinehart, George Dolenz, Richard Lane and Rex Ingram.
