- Mcu called up in the 22nd ballot under the National Service Emergency Regulations, who have attained the age of 18 years appeared in the Gazette last week. They are as follows: D. Carmichael, N. D. McEntyre, L. H. Oakes (Arrowtown), P. L. Hansen (Frankton), E. K. Lee, R. G. Paul, JB. E. Sainsbury and G. R. Nelson, most of these men are in the A.T.C. and may elect to continue their training f or the Air Force. Heavy frost has been experienced during the last few nights and skating should be the vogue if the present clear weather continues. The opening of the Ski Club will take place on Saturday next weather permitting. A bus will leave the Mt. Cook office at 10 a.m. The opening of hotel bars in Invercargill after a period of 38 years of no-lieense was celebrated with enthusiasm on Saturday when business was begun in four licensed premises. The Plunkct Society’s fortnightly cards last evening were well attended. The winners were: Mrs P. Mackenzie, and Mr W. H. Nelson and the consolations went to Mrs B. Skinner and Mr P. McKenzie.
