WAKATIPU DISTRICT SUB-UNION

A meeting of the Wakatipu District Football Sub-Union was held at Arrowtown on the 26th ult. Present: Mr C. M. Inglis (president), Messrs J. Thomson (Queenstown), W. H. James, D. Anderson (Arrowtown), lan Brown and J. S. Brown (Country), K. Shrimpton (A.T.S.). J. Thomson also represented Glcnorchy. The delegates stood in silence as a token of respect to Mr W. Baird (late delegate to S.R.U.) and the following players who have been killed on active service: Capt. C. T. Mason, D. Campbell, T. Fylnn, T. McEutyre, and H. Jackways. The balance sheet for the season 194.1-44 showed a credit balance of £lO/0/4. The balance in the P. 0.5.8. Trust Account was £27/17/-. The report for the years 1941-44 showed that owing to the war little or no organised football had taken place. “So splendid has been the response from this district,” said the report, “that it can be said that all the members of the three clubs old enough to serve with the forces arc either in the Army, Navy or Air Force. Three members of the subunion, Messrs W. McLean, E. J. Suundders and A. Tripp have been in the army for a time and one or two club members have returned from overseas. ’ ’ A series of matches was played during the 1941-42 season when the Country club supplied as many players as possible to either or sometimes both Queenstown and Arrow clubs. It was possible to send a sub-union team to Invercargill on 26th July 1941 lo play High School, the score being in favour of the latter 16-3. Action was taken to sell the sub-union jerseys during the season. A welcome was e.\tended to the new delegate to the sub-union. A healthy interest is being taken in the game by the younger club members and they should be encouraged. It was felt that the incoming executive will do all in its power to further the interests of Rugby. Thanks were accorded all those who had been of assistance during the season. The following office-bearers were elected: President Mr C. M. Inglis; vice-president, W. H. James; secretary, W. J. Hore; auditor, H. D. Walker; emergency committee: Messrs J. S. Brown, J. H. Thomson, D. Anderson. The secretary was instructed to write the Southland Rugby Union re petrol for matches and also re school and club footballs and see what can be done about arranging for a representative team to play a curtain-raiser to Otago-Southland match. The secretary was voted an honorarium of £l/1/- per year.
