AIRMAN HONOURED
Severe winter conditions militated against a big attendance at the dance which was held at the Public Hall at Lower Shotover on Friday last in honoui of Sergeant-Pilot C. Allan. Those who were present, however, were provided with the usual good fare at the hands of the country people, Mr Bagrie, chairman of the committee, was the principal speaker and said he had apologies from the Mayors of Queenstown and Arrowtown. He spoke of the pride they all felt in honouring the first boy in the district to gain his wings. He offered his congratulations to Sergeant-Pilot Allan who was a worthy son of worthy parents and he wished him the very best of luck in his flying career. The Revd. D. K. Boyd was the other speaker and he likewise offered his felicitations to Sergeant-Pilot Allan. Mr Bagrie presented the airman with a fountain pen ou behalf of the Arrowtown and district people and Mrs J Reid, vicepresident of the MLD.F.U., handed a gift to the flyer with their best wishes. He also received an envelope from the Country football club. After musical honours were given Sergeant-Pilot Allan replied. Owing to bad roads the Cromwell orchestra was unable to fulfil their engagement. However, good music was supplied by Mrs* Holmes, extras being supplied by Mrs Dorothy Raid, Miss Anderson (.Gibbston), and Mr F. Blom. The usual good and ample supper was provided.
