RABBITEES’ BALL
GARSTON’S SPLENDID EFFORT
On September 4th. the rabbiters of the Garston district held a grand ball in the Garston hall to mark the closing of a most successful season. The rabbitiers felt that after a season of very high prices, it was their duty to hold a ball at their own expense and give the takings to a good cause.
After a brief meeting all arrangements were placed in the hands of Messrs Ron. Gordon and Jas. Price ■with power to act, and when visitors from as far distant as Invercargill left for home said that it was worth every mile of the journey, they felt they had reason to be proud of their effort.
The excellent music provided by Mr Tomlin's orchestra played a large part in making the evening a success, and they very appropriately opened the evening by playing ‘Run Rabbit Run.’
The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. of Invercargill very kindly sent £2 worth of prizes for novelty dances and this surprise along with gifts provided by the committee, made a splendid variety of prizes. Throughout the evening dancers continually praised the condition of the floor and no doubt its splendid surface reflected credit on tin* working bee who spent their evenings prepar-
big it. The rabbiters wore a rabbit’s tail
as it button hole. The following were prizewinners:— Lucky spot, Air E. Pannett and Afiss J. Rose; Monte Carlo, Mr J. Templeton
and Miss R. Smythe; waltzing competition, Air M. Gee and Miss R. Smytlnn The rabbiters were happy in- their choice of an M.C. in Mr Jas. Soper, for it can truthfully be said he played his part well in making the evening aii unqualified success. As a result of the ball the funds oi the local hall committee and the patriotic. funds will benefit to the orient of about £0 each.
