(by “Critic"! LADDER MATCHES Ladder matches played on 'Wednesday night last resulted in several changes in the positions on the respective ladders. On the Women's ladder Mrs Yeint. an improving player, showed consistent form in her games during the evening and -advanced from sixth to second place. She played excellently to win 21-I's against B. Dagg.and 21K) against Mrs Keen. She was unsuccessful in her challenge for first place however, going down to B. Pussell 21-10. Mrs: Keen did not find touch ,in her games during the evening and besides losing to Mrs Vein.t she lost also to B. Dagg in a challenge for third place entered by the latter. R. Fus,-cll puts plenty of dash into her game and varies her play nicely. Her consistent play s-aw her dispose of two challenges rather easily to retain her position in first place and besides the challenge from Mrs Vein! she withstood ome from Mrs Keen 2111. Although losing to Mrs Vein! B. Dagg still retains her former position in third place as a result of a successful challenge to Mis Keen whom she defeated. The improved play of M. Mclnnes saw her advance- from seventh to fifth place. She defeated D. Dagg land in n challenge hack from the same player she put the position beyond doubt Itw winning 21-5. K. Dagg was surprisingly oil .Her game during the evening and besides losing to M. Mclnnes twice she succumbed to a challenge from M. McDuwall for

sixth place and just managed to retain that position in a strong challenge from M. May hew by winning 21-19. From tenth place to sixth during the evening came M. McDow■a 11. Besides defeating E. Dagg she 'was successful in a friendly game with Mrs Keen. The latter match did mot count for the ladder but in a challlenge for fifth place she lost to M. Maliunes by a narrow .margin. At the close of play the first seven players were: It. Fussell, Mrs Veint, B. Dagg, Mrs Keen, M. Mclnnes ,M. McDowall and E. Dagg. Several challenges for the various positions on the Men’s ladder were disposed of during the evening and the notable features were the advance of J. Keen and D. Williams to first and second place respectively and the relegation of IE MoSoriley from first to third place. In his challenge to the latter Keen was the victor after a close game 23-21. Keen varied his play well in this game and with accurate drives and smashes had his oononent completely at a loss at times. Williams played an excellent game in his: challenge to MoSoriley for second place and proved superior by 2115. He too, varied his game well. In a challenge to Keen for first place lie found the former right on his game and went under 21-15. MoSoriley seemed to have lost touch during the evening hut even so Keen and Williams- would have been hard to beat ■on the night. He retained his position in third place by resisting a challenge from D. Hull. Hall now in fourth portion is a consistent player and one who shows signs of improvement. He successfully disposed of F. Bailey’s challenge for fourth place 21-17 after a well contested gtync. Bailey who was: timing Jiis shots well advanced to seventh place and during the evening was successful against P. MoSoriJey, JE Mills A. Griffin, and lost to D. Hall. After his good games of late Mills: had an off night and did not appear to be timing his shots well. His steady play, however, is in his: favor and he will make .strong bids for the higher places on the ladder. The first seven places are now held by J. Keen, D. Williams, B. Mc--Soriley. I). Hall, J. MoSoriley. C. Kelson and F. Bailey. A. PROPOSAL. Owing to the need for more space to accommodate its increasing membership. the club will shortly have to consider the advisability of removal to more suitable quarters and this aspect will be considered at a meeting to be held in the near future. The thanks of the chib are due to the proprietors for allowing the use of its: present rooms for this year and thus: enabling the club to become established.
