OBITUARY.
MRS. HARRIET BAKER. Mrs Harriet Baker who passed away on Wednesday last at the residence of her daughter. AD’S E. W. Mutter, was one of the fast-dimin-ishing band of early pioneer settlers of Arrowtown. where she had resided continuously for the past 78 years. Although the deceased lady had reached the advanced age of 87 years l she had enjoyed fairly good health until about three months ago. The late Mra Baker was bom at St. Kilda Melbourne, and came to Arrowtown "in 1862 with her parents, the Late Air and Airs Charles Low. She was of a auiet and retiring disposition, and was highly respected by all who knew her. Her husband, the late Air John W. Baker, died in 1905, and she is survived by a family of six sons and five daughters, .and by several grand children and great-grand cihilren. The sons are William George and Victor (Arrowtown, Hector (Dunedin) Archie (Brighton) and Stanley (Wiaiporil and the daughters are Airs I. Clark (Lowburn). Airs Gorton (Invercargill). Mrs Candy (T;i ma.ru), Airs Denton (Gisborne) and Airs E. W. Alutter (Arrowtown). Air Hector Low (Arrowtown) is a brother and Miss Low .(Arrowtown) is a sister of deceased’s.
The funeral took place at Arrowtown on Friday afternoon, when a large min her of friends- attended, to pay the last tribute of resinect. and many wreaths were placed on the grave. The burial service was conducted by the Bev. J. O. Fussell. The pall-bearers were the deceased's four sons (George, Victor. Archie and Stanley Baker)- and two grandsons (Mr E. Baker and Mr J. Denton).
