Included in the list of names of Southland and Otago candidates who , passed the Public Service examination held In November last are two pupils of Queenstown District Higih School — Stanley Gordon Wilkinson and Keith James Raid. The uass is particularly creditable in that these boys were on’y second-year pupils, whereas many of the other successful entrants were third and fourth year pupils at various High Schools. This reflects great credit on the staff of tike Queenstown School. We offer our congratulations to both pupils and teachers. The local petrol stations had a busy time supplying petrol to local and country motor car owners on the day prior to rationing coming in on February Ist. Several fortified them- , selves against shortage in the early , months of rationing by obtaining sup- I plies in containers. Since the Ist February the call for petrol has not been as heavy as usual. Mr J. P. Fix, Controller, Emergency Precaution Scheme (medical section) reported to the- Borough Council that a Queenstown branch of the St. John Ambulance Brigade had been formed in the town and members would be available in case of need. There was a total of It members, which will be increased in the future. It is the intention of the Brigade to meet twelve- times during the year foi practice, with the idea of making themselves thoroughly proficient and ready for any emergency that may arise. A small committee will meet shortly in order to make the fullest . arrangements possible and a report will be made at a later date.
