WOMEN’S DIVISION, N.Z.F.U.

QUEENSTOWN BRANCH

There was a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of the. Queenstown branch Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, held in the Plunket rooms 0:11 Saturday afternoon, 2nd foist. Mirs J. B. Hamilton presided. The roll-call, “A school-boy howler,’’ brought forth some amusing stories. The competitions wore; (a) a plain cream sponge, and (b) the most articles in an ordinary match-box The former was Avon by Mrs W. ITonsyth 1 and Miss M. Bagrie 2. Mas W. Me In nes, with 70 articles, won the latter'"competition, Mrs P. Hansen with 09, coming second.' Minutes of the provincial meeting’ were read. It was decided to send ■Go to the Community Chest fund. Mrs Rankin gave am interesting reading of a translation from the Anglo-Saxon. “The Passing of Chad.’' 1 and extracts from Tennyson’s poem, “Oenone.” A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Rankin. It was decided to invite Mr B. P. Mansfield, of Invercargill, to sneak on “Gardening” at the next meeting. The competitions are a posy bowl and bran biscuits, the roll call, being “A Washing-day Dinner.” f
