POPULAR YOUNG COUPLE HONOURED.

FUNCTION AT LOWER SHOTOVEB

On Wednesday evening last, the capacity of the Lower Shot-over Hall was taxed to the utmost, when a presentation dance was given in honour of Miss Annie Brown and Mr AV. McLean, whose marriage takes place to-morrow. Visitors were present from all parts of the district, and the large crowd who turned up to do honour to the young couple was in itself sufficient evidence of their popularity. The music for the dance was supplied by Miss D. Jackways and Mr IL Romans. After a bountiful snipper had been served, t'dr J. Bagrie spoke on behalf of residents of Lower Shot-over, saying that, both Miss Brown and Mr McLean were- held in the very highest regard by the people of t.he_ district. He wished them every happiness and prosperity in their manned life, and asked them to accept, on 'behalf ol residents of Lower Sliotover, a handsome wall chiming clock. Miss Jean Hansen, in a neat speech, thanked Miss Brown for the loyalty and support, she had given to the Basketball Club, and asked her to accept a bowl from the club. Mr A. Buchanan, on behalf of the Country Football Club, spoke in glowing terms of Mr McLean as a member of the team, and of • Mis.* Brown's willing assistance at all social functions. He asked the young couple lo accept a handsome combination card table and tea waggon on behalf of the Club, and Mr McLean was presented with a fountain pen and rob of notes.

Mr Hugh Boss, spoke in eulogistic terms of the young couple on behalf of the residents of Arthurs Point.

In reply, Mr McLean thanked the speakers on behalf of Mess Brown and himself, for their kindly remarks and generous gifts.
