MANY AVENUES OF ENJOYMENT. The ideal summer conditions which have prevailed during the last week have immeasurably increased the fame of Queenstown as the paramount tourist resort of the South Island, The town is still full of .visitors •including hundreds of campers 'who are revelling in hot sunshine and warmth which lasts well into the night. Bathing, boating. launch, motor and steamer excursions, bowls and tennis, provide the main ou tl®t for the enjoyment of visitors. ihe bathing shed is the rendezvous for hundreds of bathers and spectators every day. The warm conditions prevailing* have tended to make the water most agreeable for bathing, and devotees of this healthful sport may be seen in the lake up till a late hour. In the interests of the comfort and health of those who, frequent the bathing beach it would .be advisable for the local authorities to remove rubbish and anything of an obnoxious nature off the beach. Freaneuters of the water front have been treated to some thrilling aquaplaning on the bay. The *Mt. jOook Tourist Co. have brought their speed boat. “Mist.” into requisition in tins respect and two or three aquapianists have proved themselves quite expert. On Thursday last in _ delightful weather 750 local and district people availed themselves of the combined Sundav School picnic to the Head of Lake. ‘ per the t.s.s. Eamslaw. The steamer picked up passengers at all wayside stations. were let down n.t Elfin Bny (vul Kuiloch, but the large majority landed at Glenorchy. Here the children were regaled with sports, whilst Knowles mo'ors transported many picnickers to Paradise. It was one of the most popular excursions on the lake. On Saturday night the s.s. Earnsla,w left on a moonlight cruise on the lake. Th ere was a fairly heavy booking. Dancing on the spacious upper deck to music supplied by (a local orchestra made the time pass a,way all too quickly. These excursions are always popular, and while the weather is fine they will always cater for a popular demand.
