I ITINERARY FOR OVERISEAS VISITORS. ' Recent criticism of the Government ’ Tourist Department has Riven the impression that overseas tourists are not encouraged to visit the South Island. These stories have been so persistent that many people, including- officials of South Island organisations, are firmly convinced that they : are true (says The Christchurch Stari Sun). . . . 1 Whatever public opinion on the subi ject may be, it is interesting to note i that two visitors from the Federated I Malay States are spending only eight I days in the North Island during a five weeks’ tour of New Zealand. They are Dr. F. G. Byron and Mr A. Millard, members of the Government service at Kuala Lumpur. They said that they had left the whole of i the arrangements for their itinerary i in the hands of the Tourist Departi meat. ... . j The tourists arrived in Ohristchurcin on Wednesday from Wellington, which was their first port of call in Ken Zealand. They went to Mount Cook and the glaciers, thence to Pembioke : and Queenstown, and later to w esc land. Their port of departure is Al Another interesting point about the visit of these tourists is that qthey were attracted to New Zealand as result of seeing several of the government Pub’icity Departments films which were screened at two-monthly periods in Kuala Lumpur. , Dr. Byron and Mr Millard are de-lio-hted with the service given them bv the Tourist Department.
