Mr and Mrs D. H. Cockburn, “Hazeelburn,” motored tlicrough to Dunedin on Friday last. Mr and Mrs J. Still and faim y, Dunedin, are on a visit to Mrs atmis brother (Mr T. Flynn) and uncle (Mi G. Hay) in Arrowtown. . Mr and Mrs John O’Fee, of Kmtanvata, spent Christmas with the former’s mother, Mrs M. O’Fee, Grown Terrace* Mr James McCaughan., Kaitangata, is on a visit to Mr and Mrs Joseph Miller, Gibbston. Mr John Martin. Dunedin, is on a visit to his mother, Mrs Martin, Crown Terrace. . . Miss Iris Homans, of the Maitaki Girls’ High School staff, and Miss Mary Homans, Wellington, are spending the holidays with thedr parents in Arrowtown. . . Mr G. H. Smith, of Arrowtown, attended the golden jubilee of the One Tree Toint (Southland) School last week. Mr Smith is one of the hrst decade of pupils of the school. _ Miss Godward, of InvereargiU, is on a visit to her sister, Mrs F. J. Goomes, Arrowtown. AH and Airs A. J. (Invercargill), Air and Airs J. D. Band (Skippers), and Mr Eonald A r ol l n '-~ (Invercargill) wore the guests of Air and Mrs G. H. Smith during the holidays. . , ~ AH Alex. Smiley (Dunedin) and Air W. Grigg (Christchurch), former residents, were visitors to Arrowtown during the holidays. (Mr and Airs J. A. Young and Air and' Mrs J. Laidlaw, of ‘Gore, and Airs H. Hose, of Invercargill, were recent visitors to the district as the guests of AH and Airs hj. Neilson, "Listnore Cottage,” Arrow Junction.
OBITUARY.
MRS ELIZA DANIEL. The death occurred on 25th ult, ol Mrs Eliza Daniel, of Forth street, Invercargill, at the age of 97 yeai s. Dorn in Christchurch, Hanipshare, England, in 1840, Mrs Daniel, with her husband Mr S. G. Daniel, and family of eight children, came to New Zealand 'in 1880. She first made her home in Dunedin and later Lived tor 20 years in Queenstown. How great was the popularity enjoyed by Mrs Daniel was shown each vear on her birthday, July In, when she received telegrams and telephone Messages of congratulations and good wishes from all over New Zealand. And on each birthday numbers of her friends arranged a party for her at her home. Among her callers on tier birthday this year were Messrs Charles Trim and P. Linton Hodge, songleaders of the winter community sings, who provided her with an extempore concert. . , , . , \lthough Mrs Daniel liad been confined to bed for the past 10 years* because of an accident, she cm joy ed remarkable health until near _hw death, and except for faumg sight, her faculties were unimpaired. Her husband died 28 years ago. and, of a farnilv of eight children, she is survived by the following: Misses J. K. Daniel and M. G. Daniel (both of Invercargill/ Mesdames S. J. femiiiie (Invercargill), E- O. Illingworth (King Country), V. R. Cook (New Plymouth), and Mr 8. G. Daniel (Christchurch).
