Stronach, Morris and Co., Ltd., report for week ending Thursday, 29th July, 1937:

Fat Cattle—There was a smaller yarding of fat cattle yesterday, 257 being penned. The quality generally was fair, there being only two or three trucks of prime quality bullocks on offer. The bulk of the yarding was made up of medium weights with a fair proportion of light and unfinished cattle. Extra prime heavy to £1617s 6d, medium £ll 12s 6d to £ls 2s Gd, medium £lO 12,s 6d to £l2 12s 6d, light from £7 12s 6d, extra prime show heifers to £l2 7s Gd, prune heavy to £ll 12s Gd, medium £7 12s Gd to £8 17s Gd, light down to £5 17s Gd, extra prime heavy cows to £lO 17s Gd, medium £7 12s Gd to £8 17s Gd, light down to £5 12s Gd.

Fat Sheep.—There was a yarding of 1760 fat sheep, including approximately 100 hoggets. The quality generally was fair, there being a few trucks of outstanding wethers and ewes, and the balance being made up of medium weight, with a fair proportion of light and unfinished quality. The market for all heavy sheep showed a drop of Is to 2s on the previous sale’s rates, while medium quality declined 3s to 3s Gd. Unfinished sheep were hard to sell even at reduced rates. Extra prime heavy wethers (special) to 51s, extra heavy to 46s Gd, prime heavy 37s to 435, medium to good 32s Gd to 3Gs, light and unfinished to 31s. extra prime young eives 38s Gd, extra prime heavy to 35s Gd, prime heavj 31s to 33s 9d, medium %6s to 29,s Gd, light down to 21s. Fat Pigs—'There was a medium entry of fat pigs and these met with keen competition, prices being firm at late ruling rates.

Oats. The market remains firm and there is a good enquiry for Gartons suitable for milling purposes which are bringing up to 3s 4d on trucks country sidings. Wheat.—Millers will take any lines suitable at full schedule rates. Fowl wheat meets with good inquiry at up to 5s (id ox store, Dunedin.

Chaff.—Sufficient is coming forward to meet the local inquiry and prime bright oaten sheaf is bringing up to £5 has ex truck, Dunedin. Potatoes. —Fair consignments have been coming to hand from the North and the market is a shade easier. King Edwards are meeting with the best inquiry and these are bringing up to £8 ex store, Dunedin, and Arran Chiefs £6 los.

Sheepskins.—We held our sheepskin sale on Tuesday last, and offered a large catalogue to a good attendance of buyers. There was very animated competition and prices all round showed a rise of Id per lb on last isoiteisi rates.
