THE BUILDING INDUSTRY.

The building industry has been very active in Queenstown for some time and is likely to be until the end of the year, intensive improvements have just been completed at the Town nail. The rear portion, which was in wood, has been replaced by a concrete structure which is carried right out to the lane. This is divided into two main compartments — a supper room and a workroom. The supper room is fitted with a pumice boiler, sink and wash-down board and a large-sized table. Lavatories have also been provided for both sexes. The rooms are well lighted by skylights. By the removal of part of the stage the exit from the hall to the supper room is .on the same level as the main floor, thus lending greater facility for the handling of the supper, etc. Last week the proscenium was removed back about 411, thus giving more room in the main hall. The alterations made have greatly improved the projection of the pictures as well as the sound. It is now intended to paint the interior of the hall which will lend con siderably to its fine appearance. A 2-storcy bungalow is in course of erection on an ideal site on the Eastern Terrace. The contract is being carried out by Messrs McLellan Bros, for Mr and Mrs Menlove, formerly of Athol. The house is An 8-rooraed one with sun and sleeping porches and every modern convenience. The building will prove an acquisition to the town. Another pretentious structure iu course of erection is a garage alongside the Presbyterian Church in Ballarat Street. The site is an ideal one and there is ample frontage for the movement of cars. Besides provision having been made for two bowsers there will be installed the most up-to-date equipment for coping with the ever-increasing motor traffic.

Other building work will be in process at a not distant date, the principal undertaking being the new Post-office.
