SOCIAL EVENING.

Last Wednesday evening, St. An-1 drew’s church members held the 3rd and last of their series of social even- I ings in the Parish Hall. On this occasion, the young people of the congregation organised the function, and for some time have been rehearsing a programme of sketches and musical items that, kept the audience in good spirits during the course of the evening. The first of these was a humourous sketch, “A Lighthouse ; Tragedy,” by Jim Anderson (light- I house keeper), Russell Anderson (the villain), Joyce Anderson (lighthouse keeper’s wife), Stanley M ilkinson (the doctor) and Bill Davis and Arthui Johnston (stretcher-bearers). This was followed by an instrumental trio, -Oh, Dry Those Tears,” by .Misses Jean Moffat (piano). Rene Hales (violin), Captain Lindsay (cornet). A musical monologue by Miss Esther Percy. ‘‘Having it Out,” caused great amusement. Misses Jean Moffat, Isobel Ingles, Mary Mclnncs and Mrs H. Davies sang the vocal quartette, “Drink to Me Only.” and Miss Jean Moffat gave an attractive rendering of “Oh, Give Me Youth.” Topical verses, giving a good-natured ‘dig’to several local personages, were sung by Misses Esther Percy, J. Moffat and Mary Mclnnes. Two humorous playette's proved popular with the audience, “The Test for Love,” by Messrs George and John Brown and Harold and John Grant, and “The Kettle is Singing,” by Misses Mclnnes, (‘Ethel’). Father Percy (‘Mrs Hallett’), Olga Gray (‘Silas’), Isobel Ingles (‘Julia’), and Mr Les Lindsay (Major Hallett’) and Rev D. K. Boyd (‘Gerald’). A chorus and ballet by the B.C. girls brought a bright programme to a close. Mrs D. K. Boyd and Miss Joan Moffat were the accompanists. On behalf of St. Andrews Church. Pev. D. K. Boyd expressed appreciation of the work clone by the various organisers of the socials, and thanked the managers of St. Peter’s- Church for their courtesy in giving them the use of the hall. A delicious supper was handed round by the ladies.
