Lake County Gun-dog Club.

Eleven local gun clogs turned out lor a practice Trial on Saturday afternoon at Mr Eason’s property. Gorge road Four of the dogs were handled by ladies, and they put up a very o-uod performance considering that it was their first attempt at Trial work. Dr \nderson and Mr J. Buckham were* the shooters, and their job was executed in first-class style. Most of the dogs lacked control at gunfire, but with some more Gaining this fault should be overcome by most of them. . , Mrs Stanton's setter gained mostpoints in the first test of the afternoon. and Mrs Chalmers’ golden retriever was second. Both Mrs Stewart’s and Mrs Dricbcrg s spaniels ' r , avo very good performances up to a‘point, but they did not retrieve too well. . , , j Mr E. J. Buckham s Labrador pup performed very well for a first _ attempt. This pup should win a puppy Trial in the near future. Mr G Chalmers’ Labrador worked well also for a novice. This pup has improved in her work lately, and should bo in the prize money shortly. In the second trial of tlie afternoon Mrs Chalmers’ golden retriever was first and Mrs Stanton’s setter second.’ , . , , .. Taken all round, the work of both the do"s- and handlers was very good for a first attempt at Gun Dog Trials. Xext Line both the dogs and handlers will have more confidence, and much improved work will be the result. The club will consider next week wlien the first Trial will be held. . It has been proposed to hold a Feather Trial on the Ist August, this enmnming Puppy class. Novice class and Open class. Bags from Invercnrpill, Cromwell, and Wanaka are expected to compete, which should o-jve the local club a good boost along the road to success for future Field Trials.
