Transport Co-ordination.

ABOLITION OF BOARD. “I know there will be a good deal of objection to the abolition of the Transport Co-ordination Board, and that 1 will be called a Mussolini, ’ said Mr Semple, during the discussion on the Transport Licening Amendment Bill. “We have tried a Board, but it has miserably and hopelessly failed, and 1 will submit some evidence later on that will satisfy even the Leader of the Opposition. Even if 1 am called a Hitler or a Mussolini, let me say that we are copying the English Act. At Home the Minister of Transport is the final court of appeal." So far as air services are concerned, Mr Semple added, the powers previously held by the board were transferred to the Minister, who became the sole licensing authority. Against his decisions there was no right of appeal. Ministerial control had already been restored to the railways, and when the Bill was passed there would lie centralized control by the Government of rail, road and air services.
