EX-SERVICE MEN’S RE-UNION.
The annual re-union of ex-servicc-meu in Lake County was held in Mrs Johnston’s Hall, Arrowtown, on Thursday evening last. There was a good attendance, although the Queenstown portion of the district was not well represented on this occasion. The function, which was presided over by Mr M. Elliott, president of the local committee, was a most successful and enjoyable one. The evening was pleasantly filled in with the usual toasts, songs, choruses, recitations and stories. Apologies for absence were received from Mr D. H. Cockburn and Mr O. L. Kerens, secretary, Dunedin E.S.A.
The proceedings were opened with the Loyal Toast. This was followed by that of “Fallen Comrades,” all standing in respectful silence.
Other toasts were: “Arms of the Service,” proposed by Mr John Reid (Cave Farm), and responded to by Messrs W. H. Thompson (Navy and Flying Corps), J. Fletcher (Array), and R. L. Fletcher (Nurses); “The Returned Soldiers’ Association,’’ proposed by Mr J. W. Reed, responded to by Mr W. H. James; “The Visitors,” proposed by Mr K. A. Haggitt, responded to by Messrs D. R. Hamilton and R. A. Carruthers.; "The Chairman,” and “The Secretary”
Songs were contributed by Messrs W. H. Janies, W. Boyd, R. L. Fletcher, P. Mcßride, and Reg. Romans, and recitations by Messrs W. Thomson and M. Elliott. Mr Reg. Romans was the accompanist.
