AUSTRALIAN JOURNAL.
REVIEW OF OCTOBER ISSUE
The outstanding feature of the October ‘Australian Journal’ is “Nightfall,” a long, complete novelette by Rex Grayson. This noted writer of crime stories, is at his best in a thrilling story of the underworld, which relates how a young planter on furlough in London finds himself up against a.gang of blackmailers who threaten the girl he loves. Other contributors include: H. McNeish and
John Guthrie, two popular New Zealand writers, together with such wellknown Australians as Roy Bridges, Myra Morris, Arthur W. Upheld, Darrell Syminon-’, Elizabeth Powell, Jack McLeod, Christina McAskell and others. The feature pages present the usual radio notes, paragraphs, puzzles and children’s prize stories and essays, while women readers will be particularly interested in the fashion, cookery, knitting and needlework sections. Sixpence buys this wellillustrated 152-page issue, which is wrapped in one of Esther Paterson’s brightest cover designs.
