ARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The first meeting of the ue"d. v elected Council was held on _ Tuesday evening' last. Present: His ’Worship the Mayor (Mr W. H. Jame,-), Cvs. J. Jenkins, J AV. Reed, G. Sbolea, T. Johnston, J. T. Hamilton, G. H. Hansen, and E. J. Saunders. After the usual declarations were signed the Mayor .extended a welcome the new councillors (Crs Hamilton, Johnston and Saunders), and expressed his pleasure that _ several of the old councillors had again taken office. He trusted that they would all take an interest in the Borough business: generally, and wished them a pleasant term of office. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed Outward correspondence was approved of and inward received.

Inward Correspondence. H Mullan, Palmerston North, wrote asking to be supplied with two copies of the coat of arms or other emblem or badge of the Borough.—'The clerk to supply two copies of the Borough seal. F. Varney, health inspector, forwarded his monthly report on borough inspections for period ended 301 hj A.pvjl. 1935 Received. DEPUTY MAYOR.

Or. Saunders proposed that Or. Jenkins be appointed deputy mayor, but the latter declined, and on the motion of Or. Jenkins, seconded by Or. Hansen Or. Reed was unanimously elected to the position. ELECTION OF COMMITTEES. The following committee's were elected: —Works. Crs. Jenkins (chaiiman), Hansen, Scales, Hamilton Johnston and the Mayor; linance. the Mayor (chairman) and Crs Saunders an d Reed; Hull and Domain, the whoie Council.

The Mayor and Or. Saunders wok authorised to ■sign cheques.

Ors. Jenkins and Hamilton we e appointed trustees of the P.O. savings bank account, and the Mayor and Cr. Rood trustees of .the McKibbin Ceimteiy Trust Account. summons again-l an ol Vendor who had received several warnings, but found that it. would be necessary to have the summons issued in Queens-

town as there was now no authority to issue a summons in Arrowtown. Authority had now been asked for to have summonses issued in Arrowtown.

Sanders brought up the matter of the charge for the hall lor alteirpictuics Saturday night dances. As a . rule the pictures did not finish un- { til nearly 11 o'clock, umd he considered that the charge of 7s (Jd was excessive. Or. Reid said that when the charge was fixed it was understood that the pictures would finidr at 10 o clock. It was decided that Mr Scheib be asked to make an endeavour to have the pictures finished by 10 o’clock. It was decided that in future persons booking the hall for Saturday night dances notify the clerk in writing when the hall was not used. The clerk was instructed to notify property owners to have hedges overhanging on the footpaths trimmod. Accounts amounting to G34 17s 8d were pa.-sed for payment. , leaving a credit balance of £l9 2s. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
