ARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Arrow Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening last. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Milne), Crs W. H. James, J. Jenkins, Jas. Shaw, J. W. Reedi, and G. Sc ole,?. Apologies for absence were received from Or? T. E. Thompson and G. H. Hansen.

Burrow©, certifying officer, Cromwell, wrote asking for a copy of the Borough balance sheet for year ending 3fist ■ March, 1934, for record purposes •. for Unemployment Board, Wellington.—'The Clerk to inform Mr Burrowe that the balance ehee t had not yet been audited. The manager, George- Poolei and Sods, Invercargill, wrote stating that through a misunderstanding iron support!? had been used in place of wood in seats' recently supplied for the Atheneum ilalk Writer stated that in his- opinion iron was preferable and had cost the firm a little extra, but as the- error was recognised j a rebate of 5 per cent, was suggestj ed on- the amount charged for the j seats, viz,, £lO 4s.—Received,; Messrs Poole and Sons to be thanked for the rebate-. General The Mayor said that rabbits were again plentiful in the cemetery, and something required to be dloine to deal with the pest, as they weire likely to cause damage by burrowing under the headstones-. "'He thought that poisoning was the heist method of cleaning out the rabbits-. Councillors did not favour the laying of poison in the cemetery,-and on the motion of Or. Eeed, ©eoondled by Or. James, it was decided that the ground be trapped, the mat-tie).' of engaging a suitable man being Jeft in tire hands of the- Mayor and 1 Or. Jenkins. Or. Jenkins brought up the matter of the belt of trees at- the- top end of Buckingham ©treet, which, he said, ehaded the street during thei winter months. He proposed 1 —That the- trees be divided into block©, and that tender© be called for the right of cutting them; the Work© Committee to lay out block©, and deal with tender©. —Seconded by Or. Eeicd and carried. The Olerk ©aid that no reply nad been received from Mr B. L. Scheib regarding request- from Council that footpath-at petrol bowcer be (repaired, -and that drain at rear of hi© garage receive attention. The Olerk was instructed to notify M-r Scheib that if the- work© were not attended to within ©even days the Council would carry them out a-t hi© -expense. Or. Scolos- was' granted permission to cut -branches of trees which wereoverhanging the roof of his. rasa- v dence in Buckingham ©treet. Or, James asked for the use of a couple of the Atheneum Hal ©eats for the Anzac Day ©ervi-ce-si at Soldier©’ Hill,—Granted, The audited balance ©beet for year -ended March 31, 1933, was adopted. On the suggestion of Civ James, the clerk was instructed to write Mr Powell, County Inspector, asking that the ©econd coating of gravel be put on Buckingham ©treet as soon as possible. The clerk was instructed to write Mr T, A. Feehly, lessee of Cemetery Hill, asking him tif he Wished the lease terminated.

Accounts amounting to £49 6s: 4d were passed far payment., Leaving a debit balance af £6l 11s sd.
