THE CHURCH OF LAUGHTER.
ITS PEWS ARE ALWAYS v CROWDED.
They laugh in the Rev. George E. Higgins’ church —and Mr Higgins encourages them, says- the London ‘Sunday Express’ special representative.
That may have something to do his church -of St. Luke, West Kilburn being always lull. S't. Luke’s is a fairly poor parish—-two-thirds of the members are artisans —yet every year it subscribes £I,OOO towards the building funds. How has Mr. Higgins solved the problem of religious apathyV “1 do it by being friendly,” be said to a ‘Sunday Express’ representative, “I give thein a simple, human service and I go about a good deal in the parish, visiting and making friends.” “Friendly” is the keyword.
Mr Higgins last Sunday stood at the doom ,saying ‘‘Good night” and shaking hands with every one as they went out, so that they left smiling.
On Saturday alights there are entertainments by concert parties and dramatic companies, and all the time (here arc jolly things happening for people of all ages. “Laugh and the world prays with you” is Mr. Higgins’ experience.
