Wakatipu District Football Sub-Union.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wakatipu Football Sub-union was held in the Council Chambers on Friday, Bth imst. Present: Messrs W. Warring (president), W. James (Arrowtown Club), J. MoMuMan, junr., and C. S. Elms (Queenstown Club), and T. Ryan and H .Ross (Countiy Club). Minutes of last annual meeting were read and confirmed. Balance Sheet and Report. The balance sheet showed the total receipts lor last season to be £BS in 4d, including’ last year’s balance of £U 8s 4d. The main source of revenue was> from gates, £32 11s. The principal outlay was £3l Is bd for travelling expenses in connection with representative matches. The credit balance was more than offset ■by liabilities amounting to £lO 15s. —Report and Balance Sheet. — The report stated that the standard of play during last season was on a distinctly higher plane than for i some seasons past; the final senior grade match between Queenstown and Arrowtown created intense, interest). The country team, which was unsuccessful in its matches, pulled together well and were deserving of great praise lor the manner in which they saw out an exceedingly difficult season. The standard of play in the junior competition was rather poor, due, mainly, to the lack of eligible players. The 7 a-side and 15 a-side matches (schools competitions) which proved to be interesting, were won ■by Arthurs Point and Arrowtown, respectively. In the 7 a-side tournament held on the King’s birthday (June 3rd), lor which the Sub-union provided cups, the open event was won by Arrowtown and the Schools cup by Arthurs Point. Other cups were: won as follows; —Sub-union cup (Seniors), Queenstown; Miller cup (Juniors), Queenstown; Miller school cup (7 a-side), Arthurs Point school; school cup (5 a-side), Arrowtown combined schools; Teacher’s challenge cup l (Seniors), Arrowtown. Messrs Wholesalers, Ltd. kindly donated a cup to the. Sub-union, to be played tor at the latter end of season, which was won 'by Arrowtown seniors after a strong challenge by Queenstown. Two representative matches ware played during the season, both being return games. Wakatipu deleated Vincent by 13 to 3. and were defeated by Northern by PJ to nil. The report stated that with certain exceptions the players did not respond to

the Sub-undon’s invitations- to pfay_ in these matches and the greatest difficulty was experienced in holding satisfactory trial and pnlacticc matchas*. The season ended with a credit balance of £2 (is Bd, this .being possible by holding over several accounts. The gates amounted to £B2 Us, as against £3f Is lOd last year. Bad weather militated against beater takings'. The Sub-union’s best thanks were due to the referees (Messrs \V heeler, Macdonald, Jaekways, Todd, Brown and Hayj, the parent body, the clubs and all those interested in the national game. in moving the adoption of the balance sheet and report the chairman commended those who had been •responsible for the success of the Arthurs' Point boys, who won both seven a-side events during the season He also congratulated the other winning teams and extended thanks to thc° Press for its reports of football doings. The chairman said he was disappointed with the match at Lumsden. Players were not as keen as they might be and it made him wonder whether it was worth all the trouble entailed in trying to gut teams away. Mr McMuliau seconded the adoption of the report, at the same lime commending - the president and- seeietaiy tor the way they carried out their duties. Election of Officebearers. i Mr W. The president stated that tire Ariow Club did not meet till the 13th April so that he did not know what names would be submitted. New Rule Mr Hay moved that the _ following new rule re combining of schools, come into effect this season, notice having been .given at a previous meeting: ‘‘if the weaker school can get four players, the team to be called a combined team. Boys from the stronger school who Join these four or more boys must not include strongest boys. If three or less boys are available from the weaker school, then these boys to join up with the stronger .school, as boys of that school, the teams to be then picked out as evenly as possible if two teams be entered. The motion was seconded by the president and carried. Amendment of Rule 33. The president moved the following amendment of Rule No. 33, notice of which was previously given: That after the words “until such person has resided in the district lor 14 days” the following be added: “This clause to apply without exception and, further, that for the purpose of this rule, the place of residence of pupils' or students attending secondary schools or colleges outside the boundaries of this .sub-union be deemed to be the district where such schools or colleges are situated.” The mover stated that the object of the rule was to prevent inclusion of any district boys who might be home on vacation during the progress of the competitions. Mr James seconded the amendment, which was carried. Mi' McMullan moved that the rule be not applicable to the junior matches, but he had no supporter. It was resolved that the club competition commence on Saturday, 7th May, and that there be three rounds for the Senior Cup, and four rounds for the Junior Cup. The following is the first draw: — Country v. Q’town at Queenstown). Arrow v. Country at Country. Queenstown v. Arrow at Arrow. It was decided that the senior and junior competitions be played on the same day. The Queenstown and Arrow Clubs were empowered to replace goalposts at the expense of the Sub-union ,;that the clubs get their respective grounds in order; that the Sub-union provide footballs for the ‘schools; , that the referees insist that all matches are played up to time and. that secretaries be advised of this.

It was decided to allow 10s per trip to car owners providing transport for Sub-union delegates.
