(From Our Own Correspondent). Dunedin this day. CRICKET. South Africa scored 293 in their second innings (Christy 59, Balaeko 61). South Australia in their second innings lost no wickets for nine. POLITICAL. PUBLIC WORKS STATEMENT. Mr Coates delivered the Public Works Statement last night. Last year £6,808,233 was expended from Public Works (General Purposes) fund out of a vote of £7,756,149. For the current year the proposed vote is £5,532,000, the principal items being as follows: —Additions to open railways, £1,021,000, public buildings £680,000, roads, bridges and other works, £1,100,000, telegraph extension, £250,000.
