BLIND WORKERS ON THE DOLE

COMPLAINT OK DISMISSALS. Bitterness lias I teen expressed Localise some of the blind workers at a basket factory in London have been dismissed while sighted employees are retained. A man employed by the London Association for the Blind has been complaining that when trade is slack the blind are put on the dole. ‘‘ Much of the work is seasonal, and it is therefore impossible to keep the men always employed at the Peckham factory," explained Captain Pollard, an official of the association, in reply to the complaint. “ When trade improves they are taken back. We are bound to keep on a certain number of fullysighted officials, such as those lidding executive positions, and also the tutors.” The view of the workers is that as large sums are subscribed by the public to help the blind it should be possible for the association to keep their blind employees permanently at work at a fair rate of remuneration.
