Roller Skating.

FANCY. DRESS CARNIVAL, The Garrison Hall presented a gayscene on Wednesday evening last, the occasion being a fancy dress skating carnival, promoted by Mr J. E. Weavers, proprietor of the rink. That roller skating has become a popular pastime In Arrowtowu was evidenced by the large attendance of skaters and spectators. A large number ol skaters appeared in fancy costumes, which were of a varied character. Mr Weavers had arranged a lengthy pro-

gramme of events, and these created keen competition. As the majority of the competitors had only taken up skating a short time ago, the spectators were surprised at the proficiency displayed. The ladies’ championship attracted live entries, and was won by Mrs C. Forbes, with Miss Phyllis Pittaway second. The men’s championship, for which seven competed, was won by J. Henderson, junr., with J. Hamilton second. Miss Phyllis Pittaway, as a Turkish lady, was awarded the prize for the best lady’s fancy costume, and Arthur Pittaw ay (Nigger) secured the prize for men. For the most graceful couple on skates, the judges had a large field to select from, and Miss Phyllis Pit-
