OBITUARY.

MISS FRANCIS MATILDA JENKINS. General regret was expressed in Arrowtown when the news was received of the death at the Cromwell Hospital on Monday evening of jast week of Miss francos Matilda Jenkins, only daughter of Mr and Mrs John Jenkins, Arrowtown. Although deceased had undergone two operations within the last year, she latterly appeared to be in good health until the Saturday prior to her death. Medical attention was then sought, and on Monday morning she was taken to Cromwell Hospital, where a minor operation was performed in the afternoon. The patient did not rally, and she passed away in the evening, her mother, father, and 'brother being present at-the eul. The late Frances Jenkins, who was only 17 years of age, was a native of Arrowtown. She was educated #1 the Arrow Public School and Gore High School. On leaving school she obtained a position with Arthur Barnett, Ltd., Dunedin. This she Relinquished a few months ago owing to her health breaking down. Of a bright and cheerful disposition, she was very popular with all. The deepest sympathy prevails for the parents and “brother in their very sad bereavement.

The funeral took place at Arrowtown on Wednesday, and the attendance was the largest seen ,at Arrowtown for many years. The Rev. M. Jackson conducted the services at the home and at (the. graveside. A number of girl schoolmates and friends of deceased headed the funeral procession from the parents’ residence to the cemetery, while, the pall-bearers were: Alex. Reid, Willis Shaw, JW. Warring, junr., Reg. Romans, B. L. Scheib and R. Jenkins, junr. _ The many floral tributes sent gave eloquent testimony to the esteem in which the deceased was held.

MRS ELIZABETH MAY EWART. The sudden death, on Tuesday morning last, of Mrs Ewart, .wife of Mr William Ewart, Gibbston, came ps a great shock to her many friends. Deceased dlady appeared to be in her usual Ihiealth on Monday, but while engaged in her usual housework at about 5.30 in the evening she had a paralytic stroke. Dr.' Ferguson was immediately sent for but deceased did not regain consciousness* and #he

passed peacefully away at 3 a.m. on Tuesday. The late Mrs Ewart ,was the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Charles Perriam, Gibbston. She was educated at the Gibbston School, and had spent the whole of her life at Gibbston. Of a most kindly disposition, she was ever ready to assist in times of sickness, and she will long be remembered for her many kindly actions and thoughtful consideration of others. Her death, at the comparatively early age of 4(1 years, is deeply regretted by a wide circle of friends, ,and sympathy is general for the husband and other relatives in their sad bereavement. Mrs Ewart had no family. Messrs P. C. Perriam (Gibbston) and H. Perriam (Lowburn) are brothers of deceased.

The funeral took place at Arrowtown on Thursday, and was largely attended, the burial service being conducted by the Rev. W. IV. Powell, vicar of Wakatipu. The pallbearers, the majority of whom were schoolmates of deceased, were: .Messrs Thomas and Walter Kinross, Si Cowan. S>. Macale, Ray Scott, and ;W. Reid. Amongst the many wreaths placed on the grave was one ;from the members of Lodge Arrow Kilwinning, of which Mr Ewart is a prominent member.
