The annual meeting of delegates to the Wakatipu District Football Subunion was held in the Mail office Arrowtown, on Monday evening, 13th uist. The following delegates were present:—Messrs W. A. Warring and vV, H. James (Arrow). J. McMullan and J. J. McNeill (Queenstown), R. Munro (Glenorchy), W. 11. Brown and T. Ryan (Country Club), Mr D. F. Macdonald (Referees’ Association). Mr .Warring (president), occupied the chair. Minutes of previous annual meeting were confirmed. Report and Balance Sheet. The report and balance sheet were read by the secretary (Mr N. C. Crichlield). The report stated, inter aha., that the Senior competition had proved very diasappointing, the defaults of Queenstown and Glenorchy clubs robbing the competition of any interest. The standard of play' was only fair, Arrowtown club winning the cup through its team’s consistency. The Arrow and Queenstown juniors provided the keenest games. Both teams suffered from a lack of players early in the season, and they are to be commended on their successful efforts to keep the competition going. The cup iu this grade went to Queenstown after a hard final game. The matches in the .-Schools’ competition all provided good keen football, the Arrowtown combined schools winning the Cup. The seven-a-sidc schools games proved very interesting, seven teams competing. After a- series of rounds Queenstown Public A were the winners. Two representative matches were played towards the end of the season. The game against Vincent at Arrowtown was won by Vincent by 10 to 6, and that against Northern* played at Queenstown, ended in a aw _3 ail. The latter match was a particularly meritorious performance on the part of the local team, as owing to the senior competition finishing early, and grounds being unplayable, training was confined to hall practice. It was hoped that during the coming season return matches against Vincent and Northern would be arranged, the latter taking the lorn of a challenge for the Sports Protection Banner, provided enough enthusiasm was shown by senior players. Thanks were due to Messrs Jackways. Macdonald and Todd, who controlled the important iixtures during the season. It was hoped that clubs would induce some of their retiring players to take up refereeing, and - construct the Referees’ Association into a real live body. The report concluded with thanks to tflie S.R4F.U., clubs, referees, and all who gave support to the game during the year. The balance sheet showed that the season commenced Avith a credit balance of £ll, and ended Avith a credit of £l4 8s Id. included in the expenditure Avas £5 11s carried forward from the 1928-29 season. In addition to the credit balance, Avhidh Avas clear of all liabilities, there Avas an amount of, approximately, £lO, being the proportion owing by the S.iUF.U. for Country Day, 1930. The gates amounted to £34 4s 10d, Avhich Avas considered a deplorable amount, considering that the gate takings for tAvo rep. matches were included in this total. Entertainment for the two visiting representative teams cost £ll 8s sd. this amount, however, being off-set by £4 12s 9d, the proceeds of tAvo dances, leaving a net cost of £6 15s 8d for entertaining. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the chairjiiaji said that although the senior competition had been most disappointing, and tire gate takings much below Avhat should have been expected, they had come out Avith a satisfactory credit balance. The junior and schools’ competitions had been most encouraging.
