ARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Arrow Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening, 30th uit. Present: Crs Milne (Deputy-Mayor), Anderson, Dakers, Jenkins, Saunders, Summers, and Tobin. An apology for absence was received from the Mayor ~Mr James Shaw). Mrs D. M. Hansen, lion, secretary, St. Paul’s Ladies ■’Guild, wrote thanking the Council for granting the use of the Athenaeum Hall free of charge for one night. —Received. T. ,M. Ball, Board’s representative District Highways Council, forwarded copy of main highways estimate for year 1930-31, which included the sum of TOO for maintenance in Arrow Borough.—Eeceived. A. L. Cassie, Ltd., wrote forwarding quotations for lire Hose. —Left in the hands of the Works Committee to ascertain the size and quantity required. The Mayor’s action in granting the i Fallen Soldiers’ Memorial Committee permission to tap the main with a half-inch pipe for the purpose of conveying - water to top of Soldiers’ Hill was approved. Cr Jenkins, chairman of the Works Committee, reported that the trees had been planted on section adjoining cemetery and in the Recreation G round. It was reported that some of the trees on the reserve between Arrow river and the town had been cut down and removed.—lt was decided to insert an advertisement in the Lake Wakatip Mail to the effect that any person cutting 'trees on the reserve would be prosecuted. The matter of re-pegging the sections in the new portion of the cemetery was left in the hands of Or. Lakers. Cr. Saunders said that a lot of rubbish had accumulated on the bank at the foot of Wiltshire street. He thought this should be cleared away, as it was very unsightly.—The dayman to be instructed to attend to the matter. The Clerk was instructed to write Hon. P. de la Perrelle, Minister of Internal Affairs, regarding the promised grant of £SO for cutting a track up Bush Greek. In reply to a question, Or. Jenkins said he did not know when the Lake County Council’s plant would be available lor the work of .gravelling the main street from Chalmers corner to Wiltshire street. On the motion of Cr. Saunders, seconded by Cr. Jenkins, it Was decided that Ballarat Hill be gravelled if money were available. The Clerk was instructed to write property owners regarding leaking pipes and taps. Cr. Saunders asked if it was correct that the Athenaeum Hall was not now available for Saturday night dances after the pictures. The Clerk said that she had received instructions from the Mayor that the Hall was ndf to be let for dances alter the pictures. The Deputy Mayor said that 'on the last occasion on which a dance had been held on a Saturday night the caretaker had reported that Mr Tomkies picture screen and several .seats had been damaged. As a result, the Mayor had interviewed some of the members of the Hall Committee, and it was decided that the hall be not. lot for Saturday night dances in the meantime. Cr. Saunders said that the .Football Club, which had been running the dances after the pictures during the Winter months, had not been informed of any damage having been done. He did not think the Council should turn down the revenue to be obtained from the holding of the dances. Or. Anderson did not think the, Council should deprive the young people of a dance on a Saturday night if they ’desired one. in .reply to a question, the Clerk said that Mr Tomkies paid Pis (id, and the charge for the Hall for a. dance after the pictures had been 7s (id.
