GOLF.

MEN’S SECTION. That Wakatipu golfers have had little experience in combating the elements such as prevailed on Saturday last was very evident. The result was, to put it mildly, that the scores were not good. The boisterous gusts of wind which intermittently disturbed the concentration of a player about to "putt” were a source of worry, and on the majority of greens players felt that they had no control over the ball. A. H. Cooke, however, who hails from North Otago, has had more experience of the climatic disturbances that are more or less foreign to the conditions prevailing at Wakatipu. His score of 89 was most creditable and incidentally it placed him at the top of 4he list of players who qualified for championship honours. The following arc the scores of players who qualified over 30 holes:, A. H. Cooke 188, R. Gilkison 189, F. Stoop 195, A. Griffin 19®, J. McNeill 202, I). Macdonald 205, W. Harper 209, Dr. Anderson 211. In the first round of the Championship 1. A. H. Cooke plays Dr. Anderson. 2. N. Gilkison plays W. Harper. 3. F. Stoop plays I). Macdonald 4. A. Griffin plays J. McNeill. In the second round the winner Oi No. 1 will play the winner of No. 4 and the winner of No. 2 will play No. 3 - , , f . . On Saturday next a medal match will be played for a club button. The following is the draw: t Dr. Anderson 16 plays W. Harper 18, J. Dagg 30 plays J. McNeill 14, G. Wilkinson 18 plays A. H. Cooke 8, F. Stoop 8 plays D. Macdonald 18, E. Gilkison 12 plays J. Mcßride 18, H. S. Smith 20 plays A. Griffin 18, L. Curtis 24 plays J. Mcßride 18.
