A HUG WTO WN v. QUEENSTOWN. Arrowtown, challengers for the Burnett Shield, met the local eleven on Saturday last. J. White won the toss and Queenstown batted. The opening was disastrous, Sew Hoy, F. Gardiner and Bennetts being dismissed' for a paltry four runs. Fletcher at this stage had an analysis of three wickets for none. White then joined J. Lynch, and ran the score to 31 before'the latter was bowled by Fletcher for a solidly made 22. Nelson came next, and with his skipper proceeded to retrieve the position The bowling was completely collared, and a separation wa(s not effected until 124 runs had been added, when White was bowled just on the tea adjournment. His (55 included seven 4'is and one 6, a splendid innings when things were going badly. _ Nelson left soon after with 67 to his credit. He hit six 4’s and one 6, and practically made the game safe. The tail did not wag l to any great extent, though Homans hit hard for 11, and the innings closed for 178. J. Fletcher and Smith were Arrow’s opening batsmen ami, helped by weak fielding, put on runs at a good rate. It looked as if the Queenstown total would be reached when Smith unfortunately hit his wicket in playing to a good one from Lynch. The partnership had realised 77 runs-. A short while later Fletcher was unluckily run out through a good piece of fielding by Bennetts, and the- gamehad swung in Queenstown's favour. The remainder wore not equal to the task of getting the runs in the time, and when stumps were drawn seven wickets were diown for 117. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the Club. Scores;—

Perhaps the previous night’s efforts wore, to blame* Nelson and White both played their highest innings to date, in local cricket, and prevented what might have been a collapse. G. Lynch was unlucky in being run out when he was just getting set. R. Fletcher did the. lion’s share in the Arrow attack, J, Lynch and White both getting' a clinker from him.
