PROGRESS OR STAGNATION?
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Might I be allowed to call' attention to the fact that our Mayor and Councillors with few exceptions were conspicuous- by their absence the League’s Annual meeting 1 on Friday night last. That one outstanding fact alone is not conclusive as to the attitude of] the City Fathers towalrds the League, but, 'coupled with the apaithy displayed since the inception of the League, the citizens can certainly conclude, "Progress'” is not the- Sloglan of ”our Borough Council. It can safely be said that the Leagues’ representatives on the Council have demonstrated very forcibly to residents hero, that -the Borough Council, as at present comb' stituted, will not be a party to any movement to boost Queenstown. Why Why lias the Council shuffled with regard! to the taking oven of . tliel Children’s Playground? Why is the Council at this late hour quiestionjjng the conditions under which the old -railway wharf has to be taken over under its control? The answers to. these questions are, simple to, .relstidents who have taken an .interest in the proceedings at Council meetings. Let it be here stated that we have a few councillors who are displaying the progressive spirit, and these councillors are already known, to us? all. The League’s representatives will surely reap their reward next April, when the citizens will bo given, the) opportunity at- the ‘Poll to decide between “Progress’’ and * Stagnation. What suited 40 years -ago* <wi.ll hardly7neet present day re-qui-iements. Press on! The League. I am, etc., CITIZEN. Queenstown, 18th October, 1926.
