WAKATIPU HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the above society was held in the Courthouse on Wednesday last, Bth inst. There was a fair attendance. Mr M- J. Gavin, president, orcupied the chair.

Minutes of last annual meeting were read and continued.

The following is the annual report

Your Committee has pleasure in submitting its report for the year 1919-1920. During the year only one show was held, the Spring Show, on the 7th October, the Coinmi.tee deeming it advisable owmig to the unfavourable season to abandon its intention of holding the Summer Show.

Though the finances of the Society are on a good footing they cannot be con i le ed who'ly sa.islac o y. The net balance in hand is £2;-$ 19s 3M and if the summer show had been held it is thought that the greater part of this would have been expended. The gross receipts for the year were £27 19s, as compared with £37 9s for the previous season, while the expenditure was £22 8s s£d as compared with £2l 15s ltd. The principal decrease in receipts as shown in donations and the door takings, the former being £3 15s 6d and the latter £-1 4s, lests than in the previous year. The gross expenditure remains at about the same lovcl as in the- previous year. Despiito the lateness of th • season preventing several of the more prominent enthusiasts from exhfbi:ing their best blooms, the entries for the show were very satisfactory, but it is hoped that with more favourable weather the entries for th * coming show will be more so.

Daring the past year the Society has suffered a severe toss iu Mr Campbell's promotion to Bale lut ha. To hi 3 foresight cs clue the satisfactory balance which was carried forward from the previous year and it js thought that no record o>r the Society's operations would i>e cam-.' pleto without expression of appre.l- - of his .semeos.

The thanks of the Society are due to those members who gave donar tious, and to the canvassers, ami the Committee appreciates the enthusiasm shown by the members themselves. It is hoped that with a* mode favourable season during the coming year the Spring Show w,:li be a greater success and that the Committee will bei <l.ll a position to revive the holding of the Summer Show which for tw<j yeans, owing to unfavourable seasons, has not been [held.' The balance sheet showed the receipts to be £46 7s 8.1 and the expenditure £lB 17s 2d with unpaid accounts amounting to £3 15s. The net balanco was shown to be £23 lite 3 a kl.
