TOYS IN JAPAN.
A daughter in Japan is presented with a pair of dolls made of carved wood or enameled clay in the image of the Mikado and his wife, at her birth and with these she plays till she has grown up. When she is married these dolls are carried with her to her husband's house and are religiously saved so that, her own daughters may have them afterwards and add to the collection as they grow up. The greatest dav for the little bova is the fifth day of the fifth month. This is the Feast of Flags. Previous to this day there are great displays of images of heroes, warriors, commanders, generals, soldiers, famous wrestlers, etc. A set of these toys is bought for every boy born into a Japnese family, and with the little girl's collection the Japanese children have a curious collection of images that brings to their minds the stories of the heroes of the ancient Japan.
