In the first, which was date 1 lftth July, the Post-master-Genera! stated that i i order ;o provide the desired fac.litie.s it would bo necesserv to erect an ad-liti-inai meia'lic c'n-uit between Dunedf'i ami Middlemarcli, and that the question of erecting such circuit wiiiid liave further consideration in i-juneci'on with the preparation of the Estimates for the present year. Oth August. the IVt..;iaster-(ienera! stated that a test ha 1 been made to ascertain definitely iirtt'ier it is possible to speak from Queenstown to Dunedin over the ex:<t::isr circuits via Clyde and that •t had been found, as was expected. ♦;ha* it is impossible. The writer i'ii"ther stated that in Xovenmer of l'.ilii it was decided to defer the niato r erecting wire to provide for te'ephoiiic communication from Queenstown to Invercargi'il and Dunedin via Lumsden and Go-e. The Cha ; rman stated that when he found that one could speak to Dunedin from Nevis, the head of Lake Wanaka or Luggate, he did not see why they should be debarred from speaking from Arrow'own town over the same line. They had been told by the Department that it would ne necessary to put a special wire through lietween Kingston and Invercargip, which wa- a big expense.
Cr King said that the material lying at Kingston was got for the use of the settlers on the other side of the lake.

The Chairman Mated that he liad received an application from the manager of the mines at Macetown. for some repairs to t>e made to roads between Macetown and the reefs, so as to make same lit /or s.eigh traliic. The Company was prepared to put two men on. It had been paying in rent and ill it 17s lid in rates and was there 1 ' -o entitled to some consideration.
The C '•uncil agreed that the work wa- necessary ami decided to leave the matter in the bands of the Chairman.

The report was adopted. In reply to C'r Baid, the Inspector st.'iirl that it would be eight weeks 1 r!<>!r the trader and drays would be Cinishe 1 iii the Cardrona riding. (Lake had spoken to him about some repairs which were needed on the piece of road running d-'wn to Douglas vale from the main road.—Cr Baird stated that the proper -n vpved r-oad was really over Lee's pipe-.ine but this was closed. He advocated the repairs being made. The work was /eft in the hands of the Inspector to carry out. Cr (!e Keid i>ointed out the necessity for making some repairs to Routeburn Yal'ey road before the tourist season comes on, also o>f gra\el!ing the O.eiKiiehy-Paradise road, for all o.f which works there were Government votes.
The Inspector said that there was £.50 for the Ilouteburn Valley road and £l5O for the other works. He found irreat- difficulty in get tint; men to do the work.
