GERMANY AND THE FUTURE.
German pro'essors are now openly stating that however soon peace may be made, and even if Germany has to bo content with much less than she expected, she has really gained such a political and economical ascendancy through the war over Austria. P.ul-_ra-a. and Turkey, that in ten years' :hie she will, with their co-operation mi! able to throw a couple of million, of men against the Suez Canal and the same number against India, free ironi any interference by British sea power, and that for this purpose, strategic railways must be immediately put in hand to the Egyptian frontier.' They say, and no doubt under official direction, that the one and only enemy is Britain, and that rhey will never rest until the death blow to that Empire has been given. Further, that now they control Turkey, Britain is vulneraole in the Fast and cannot protect herself there. That is the way Germany regards the prospects of peace. We fancy they will have other things to attend to during the next ton years than tin) carrying out of this programme.
