His Excellency the Governor has received tiie following telegraphic appeal from Field Marshall liis Royal iiignness the Uuku of Coniiaught, and the Marquis of Lansdowne, on behalf (it the Order of St. John oJ Jerusalem in England, and tne British Red Cross Society, which his Excellency hopes will meet with the same generous response as did last year's appeal:— "it becomes necessary for tiie Order of St. John of Jerusalem in England atul the British Red Cross Society to appeal once more to tiie generosity ol their friends and supporters at Home and overseas for funds to carry on their work of mercy for the sick and wounded of his Majesty's forces. The Joint Committee has decided to make again such an appeal on October 18th, and we earnestly beg yottr assistance in making it known to tiie people ol New Zealand. Our Red Cioss work Jnow costing ÜBUUO a day, and increases rat nor than diminishes. Our help is given in every theatre of the war, and to troops from every part of tliii Empire. and will have to be continued for some time, even when victory has been achieved.
