By spending large sums in advertising, bicycle manufacturers were able 4o reduce the price—first by 50 per cent, at one stroke; and even after that by smaller degrees. Such inventions as the player-piano, the vacuum cleaner, and similar articles requiring expensive machinery to make them could not be sold at popular prices if it were not for the large output made possible by Advertising.
