THE WAKATIPU SEAT.

Mr T. P. Gilfedder, a relative of Mr M. Gilfedder who previously contested the seat, has been definitely announced ps a candidate for the Wakatipu seat at the forthcoming geneial election. —' S. Times.'

The Socialists of Timaru, numbering about 50, have selected Mr R. Gould to stand in their interest at the next election. Mr R. E. Hornblow announces that he will stand for the Orouaseat in the Liberal interest.

At the request of the Manawatu Flax Workers' Union, Mr J. Robertson, of Palmerston North, secretary of the Taranaki Dairy Workers' Union, has decided to contest the Otaki electorate in the Labor interest.

There are already three Richmonds in the field for the Egmont seat —viz., Mr B. Dive, the sitting " Reform " member, Mr G. P. Wake (mayor of Eltham), and Mr W. C. Dudley. Mr H. J. Farrant, compositor, has been selected to contest the Invercargill seat in the Labor interest with Mr Hanan, the sitting member. Dr Pomare, having been retrenched from the Government service as Native Health Officer, will contest the Western Maori seat with the sitting member, Mr Henare Kaikau.

Mr Hogan (Liberal) denies that he intends to stand down for VVanganui to enable Sir John Findlay to enter the elective Chamber.

Mr Watene Whiro, of Pelorus Sound, will be a candidate fo the Southern Maori district.

Mr P. O'Dea will stand for Patea in the Liberal-Democratic interests.

Mr Joseph M'Cluggage (Government supporter) will oppose Mr J. B. Hine for the Stratford seat. Mr R. M'Nab's prospects of unseating Mr Buick for Palmerston are said to be distinctly good. In Wellington Central Mr Fletcher, who headed the pdl for both the municipal and Harlor Board elections, is meeting with most encouraging promises of support. His opponent will be Mr F. M. B. Fisher, the sitting member. Mr W. A. Morris, of Waikiwi, Southland, has announced that he will again contest the Awarua seat, representedby Sir Joseph Ward, in the Labor interest.
