Two Gore young people in the persons of Mr T. Butler, brother of Mrs B. Anderson of Queenstown, and Miss Jean fi«id were joined in the bonds of holy matrimony at St. Joseph's Church on Thursday morning last. The bride was given away by Mr J, Edgar, junr., and die was attended by Mines Edith and Cissie Anderson (neices of the bridegroom). Mr B. Anderson (nephew of the bridegroom) being best man lie Bev J. F. O'Donnell performed the ceremony in the presence of a few friends. The happy couple left by the steamer the same morning fot their new home, carrying away with them the nsual congratulations. On Wednesday last the Rev. H. Packe received a cablegram from Suva, Fiji, bearing the sad news of the death of Mr Leslie John Walker, father of Mrs Packe and of Mrs Kenrick who wa3 on a visit to her sister here. Deceased had not been in good health for some months past, having suffered from paralysis. He was 78 years old which is considered a good age far the tropics. Deceased gentleman wh for 25 years Colonial Postmaster in Fiji, retiring on a pension in 1905. He leaves a wife and family of 6 daughters, three of whom are married. To the bereaved relatives we tender our heartfelt sympathy.

A telegram says that Mr Andrew Anderson, brother of Mr B. Anderson of this town, was accidentally killed on the 16th inst by a fall of quartz in the Grand Junction mine. The fatality is a very sad one owing to its suddeness and much sympathy goes out to the bereaved in their irreparable loss.

We are pleased to note amongst the successful candidates at the recent university matriculation and solicitor's general knowledge examination the name of Master Doric L. Algie, youngest son of Mr J. A. Algie, oar local postmaster. His pass, ve understand, was a very creditable one, which mutot be regarded as all the more remarkable, when the boys optical disability is taken into account. Master Doric has been attending King's College, Auckland, for the past year. Dr F. Hotop. son of Mr L. Hotopof this town, who arrived in the Dominion at the beginning of the year, is at present relieving Dr Fitzgerald at Kaitangata. Dr Hotop brings with him to the Dominion a very wide experience gained from the principal London hospitals and from general medical and surgical work.
